Rep. Walsh to Chairman Issa: We Must Hold Holder in Contempt

Statement

Today Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8) met with Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa and urged him to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of an October 12, 2011 subpoena. After more than a year of investigating Operation Fast and Furious, the Department of Justice has failed to produce numerous subpoenaed documents to the committee.

Walsh stated: "Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry's family deserves answers, the whistleblowers deserve vindication, and the American people demand someone be held accountable. The Department of Justice has been dragging their feet for over a year and continues to remain uncooperative with our investigation. Their refusal to turn over critical documents is absolutely unacceptable.

"After meeting with Chairman Darrell Issa and reviewing the contempt report, I feel that the Department of Justice has left the Oversight and Government Reform Committee with no other option than to move forward with a contempt citation. Lives were lost as a direct result of this botched operation--both American and Mexican lives. The American people need answers, and if Attorney General Holder continues to refuse to cooperate with our investigation, then he must be held in contempt."
